Splash Special Needs
We are here to minister to children with disabilities and special needs. We believe at Lighthouse that the church should be a place that welcomes and loves all children by offering a safe place where parents can leave their children while they attend our weekly celebration services.
There are two types of placements offered. Each placement is on a individual basis.
Special Needs Sunday School Class
For mild-severe pre-K through 2nd grade, this classroom is visually structured and supported. There are trained teachers and assistants (1 teacher plus 1 assistant per 5 kids). Socialization is available with typical developing peers (pier buddies) and a turn in the fun bounce house zone. The themed lesson is reinforced throughout circle/ story time, arts and crafts, movie, music, a sensory area and snack time.
Inclusion opportunities
Inclusion settings in typical developing classrooms are available from pre-k through 6th grade. The child can receive assistance through a trained aide, visuals, or other tools. The lesson taught is the regular Sunday school format which includes drama, games, shout-it-out, bounce house time, and worship.
Children’s Ministry Special Needs Team
The children’s ministry special needs team assists the children’s ministry director by providing weekend teaching teams that allow opportunities for families who have children with special needs to attend church by caring for their child in a special Sunday school classroom or inclusive settings. Join the team by being a teacher (minimum 18 years of age) or assistant. We provide occasional special needs care for parents’ night out. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
